$1,000 in a month

How to save $1,000 in a month

Aim for $250 a week for four weeks. Pause takeout and shopping, sell two or three things you do not use, and move every extra dollar to savings the day it arrives.

1Go week by week

Our plan uses four weeks: $250 a week, or about $36 a day. In a 31-day month you get three extra days of slack.

2Pause what you can restart

Takeout, delivery, shopping and one or two subscriptions, for four weeks.

3Sell and earn

A bike, a console or clothes you do not wear. One or two extra shifts close the rest.

4Move it the same day

Send each amount to savings the day you get it, so it does not drift back into spending.

5If $250 a week is too much

At $150 a week, $1,000 takes 7 weeks. Selling one thing for $300 cuts that to 5.

Frequently asked questions

Is saving $1,000 in a month realistic?

For many people, yes, with one-time money from selling things. On a tight budget, $500 is still a good first goal.

What should the first $1,000 be for?

A starter emergency fund, so a small surprise does not go on a credit card.
