Equal or by income

Equal is simple when you earn about the same. By income, each person pays the same share of their pay. With $5,000 and $3,000 a month, that is 62.5% and 37.5%.

Settling up

Each share is compared with what that person paid. In the example, $960 of bills splits into $600 and $360 by income. Sam paid $290, so Sam pays Alex $70. Split equally, Sam pays $190.

More than two people

Add up to six people. The calculator finds the fewest transfers that settle everyone up.

Frequently asked questions

How do you split bills fairly with different incomes?

Split by income, so each person pays the same percentage of their pay. Equal shares take far more of a smaller paycheck.

How is this different from the rent calculator?

The rent calculator splits one rent by income or room size. This one adds many bills, tracks who paid and works out who owes whom.

Are my numbers saved?

No. Nothing you type leaves this page.
